Northamptonshire Family and School Therapy ServiceThe Northamptonshire Family and School Therapy (NFAST) Service delivers mental health interventions in primary schools in Wellingborough.
The aim of the service is to provide systemic approaches based on evidence-based interventions at the earliest opportunity to maximise positive outcomes for primary school children with complex needs, displaying challenging behaviours and/or at risk of exclusion.
NFAST supports young people and families who struggle with emotional regulation at home and/ or at school. This includes those diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
In partnership with schools, the service delivers joint interventions with the aim of working in co-production with parents to develop an understanding of the emotional, relational and learning needs of their children.
Creating communities of support around the family is a key element of our work. Alongside other services in the community, we work together to support the needs of young children who are at risk of developing complex emotional difficulties as well as gang related criminality, disengagement from education and family breakdown due to aggression or relational difficulties.
The NFAST team offers:
- Family group meeting in schools (up to 8 families will attend together)
- Individual family work
- Assessments and sign-posting
- Training for schools
- Non Violent Resistance groups and individual interventions (an approach to support parents with children that present with challenging behaviours such as aggression)
