The Treatment Centre - ECT and Ketamine Therapy

ECT is a safe and effective treatment for people with severe major depressive disorder, catatonia, and mania. ECT is given under a short acting anaesthetic, when the patient is asleep an electric current is passed across the patient’s frontal lobe which causes a controlled fit, it is suggested this lifts the patient’s mood. Ketamine therapy (IV or oral) - a low dose of ketamine is slowly administered through a cannula using a syringe pump over 40 minutes to cause an anti-depressant effect. This can also be administered via an oral solution route.
