October 2019 iWGC and compliments - making a difference...everyday

Each month we want to bring you updates of the feedback we receive from tools such as iWantGreatCare, as well as compile a few of our favourite compliment quotes that our Trust teams and individuals receive from service users, patients, carers and families each day.
We feel that sharing this is important not only for some 'feel good' factor but also so that we can publicly thank and congratulate our staff who strive to make a difference each and every day.
Celebrating our staff who work and dedicate themselves for you, our community, is just a small way we can give back to them; but we also hope you enjoy reading some of these pieces of feedback and that it leaves you feeling happy and also more confident in giving your own feedback - good or bad via iWantGreatCare or our through our Patient Advice and Liaison Service. Feedback is crucial to ensure we are doing things that work for our community and can help us address any issues that could be raised.
So, October stats...
- 1832 pieces of feedback received on iWGC
- Overall rating of 4.78/5
- 94.9% of patients, service users or carers and families recommending NHFT as a place to receive care
- Received 154 compliments via other methods - which can be anything from thank you cards to verbal thank yous
With so much positive feedback we just had to let you read some of the wonderful compliments that go with this.
“The nurses and assistants were all very caring and patient. Menu was very balanced.” - Adult Community Beds, Corby
"Compassionate mind group. Things were good find the care group was very good and easy to understand, I cant think of anything which would make it better." - Mental Health Team Kettering
Are you not feeling the Christmas spirit this year?

Christmas songs are playing on the radio, the decorations are out of the loft and you may have opened the festive chocolates.
The lights and food can give us that 'festive feeling', but if you’re feeling down or low in mood - that's okay. We have put together some information on how you can prioritise your mental wellbeing, and how you can reach out for support if you need a helping hand to get back on track.
- Talk to someone, sometimes just talking and making contact with another person can make you feel much better. This can be a relative, a friend or a professional. Make the most of technologies and connect with loved ones this Christmas.
- Try to organise a sleep routine, go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time. Sleep is essential to your wellbeing.
- Try to write down three positive things a day you have achieved. These do not need to be big as sometimes just posting a letter is an achievement. This small step to refocusing your mind set can help you to improve your overall outlook.
- Set some small goals for your day that are achievable to give you a sense of purpose.
- Most importantly be kind to yourself, it's okay not to be okay. This year has been difficult for all of us, you’re doing well.

Are you feeling overwhelmed with worry and stress this Christmas?

Is the Christmas food shopping booked? Did I order the last Christmas presents? There is a lot to think about this time of year, and it can become overwhelming at times. We want you know that if you have been worrying over the small things this Christmas, that’s okay.
Our Changing Minds IAPT service offers talking therapies to provide you with mental wellbeing support and help you to manage your worry and stress, you can refer yourself via the website at any time.
We have put together some advice on how you can manage your wellbeing and worries this festive season:
- It’s important for you not to feel under pressure to feel a certain way around Christmas be kind to yourself.
- Complete a worry list, write down everything that is worrying you then consider each one, can you do anything about it? Is it in your control? If not cross it off then focus on one worry you can do something about and set yourself a small goal to start to challenge this worry.
- Being open with your friends and family can often help with expectations it may be that you are worrying about this but you are predicting how people feel rather than it being a fact. Be honest about the pressure you are feeling this can help you with your worry.
- Is it only Christmas spirit you are not feeling or have you felt this way for a while? Have you noticed you have stopped doing things because of how you are feeling? If yes then reflect on what has changed recently and is there a small change you could make that could improve your mood? For example a better bed time routine or prioritising self-care.
- It’s okay just not to like the Christmas period, its stressful and busy, take time for yourself to breathe and do something that you enjoy that doesn’t involve Christmas.

Meet the winners of our art competition!

Budding artists across Northamptonshire have put their pens to papers, and brushes to canvas in a bid to spread some joy as part of the NHFT art competition.
From superheroes, to rainbows, to poems and all the wonderful sketches, local NHS trusts have been overwhelmed with the support throughout the pandemic, and it was time that NHFT organised an art competition to honour this!
To celebrate the talent across the county, NHFT hosted an art competition throughout the summer and commemorate the ongoing dedication and hard-work received from NHS colleagues during this challenging period.
The competition had three categories in which one lucky winner from each received a certificate NHFT chief executive, Angela Hillery, as well as a chocolate prize. Selected by an array of judges, the winning designs were created by Harriet (0-11 category), Isabella (11-18) and Hannah (18+ category).
Angela Hillery, Chief Executive of NHFT, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the creativity and talent of the budding artists who took the time to enter the art competition. Each and every design has touched our colleagues, and provided them with a much-needed smile during these challenging times.
“We would like to thank everyone who sent in their fantastic designs, and congratulations to our three winners; Hannah, Isabella and Harriet.”
