Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) formed a group arrangement in 2021. Now formally known as Leicestershire Partnership and Northamptonshire Healthcare Associate University Group, we continue to journey towards our early commitment to become anti-racist organisations.

The Together Against Racism programme of work is one of our joint priorities across LPT and NHFT. By working together, both Trusts have committed to developing an overarching vision to tackle racism and discrimination proactively, and with a joint approach.

The Group programme of work was recently shortlisted at the Asian Professionals National Alliance (APNA) NHS awards for the ‘Trust/ICB of the Year - Promoting Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) Agenda’ award.

The Asian Professionals’ National Alliance is a voluntary organisation constituting health and social care professionals of South Asian heritage working in the NHS and Local Authorities. APNA NHS aspires to amplify South Asian voices, influence policies, promote the values of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and champion health equity.

The awards ceremony took place on 13 September and Together Against Racism was awarded with a certificate of merit recognising ‘Outstanding Contribution’ for the category.

To be shortlisted for the ‘Trust/ICB of the Year – Promoting ED&I’ award, organisations were required to have ‘demonstrated positive outcomes through promoting and driving forward the ED&I agenda’. Our Together Against Racism programme set out to achieve exactly this and the impact of the work can be evidenced by initiatives that are making a meaningful difference in both of our Trusts every day.

Shared Chief Executive of LPT and NHFT, Angela Hillery, said: “The recognition for our Group Together Against Racism work is incredibly positive and encouraging. I am very grateful to everyone helping us in this important work. Both Trusts’ Race Equality And Cultural Heritage (REACH) staff networks have been pivotal and we really value their input.

We know that we have more to achieve but this is an excellent time to reflect and say thank you to everyone who has supported or contributed to the work so far.”
