Bedford Prisons inspection update
Between 30 October to 9 November 2023, an inspection of HMP Bedford took place. This involved the CQC working with HMIP to inspect the NHFT healthcare services at the prison. The wider report, which looks at the full provision at HMP Bedford has been released today and highlights a number of improvements to be made across the Prison.
Since the visits late last year, NHFT teams have been working closely with the HMP Bedford Prisons team and our regulators to support the delivery of recommendations made in the report.
We welcome that the report acknowledged that positive changes have been implemented in health care, in a challenging time. In addition, the report highlighted areas of positive practice including in physical healthcare and health and wellbeing coaching.
Where the report has identified areas for improvement, we are committed to continue working in partnership with the wider prison teams, to make changes and ensure we are providing safe, effective care.
