The Royal College of Psychiatrists offer further insight into Spiritual Wellbeing and how it can support recovery, see below a definition of spirituality from their website:
Spirituality doesn’t have one definition and can mean many different things for everyone. We understand that spirituality is personal and unique to everyone. These are a few examples of what spirituality could include:
- Finding meaning and purpose
- Values such as honesty, kindness and compassion
- Having hope
- Discovering resilience and strength
- Developing trust
- A sense of connectedness with ourselves, others, the natural world and perhaps what lies beyond
- Having a belief in self, others and for some, in a higher being
- Religious practices
- A sense of belonging
- Meditation / mindfulness / prayer / contemplation
- Creativity and self-expression
